Dynamics of thermal spin torques in magnetic tunnel contacts
A spin polarized current entering a magnetic nanostructure transfers angular momentum to the magnetization of the nanostructure which can induce magnetization precession and eventually magnetization reversal. Such spin transfer torque is routinely used for magnetization switching of nano scale magnetic tunnel junction memory cells. Recently also the generation of a thermally driven spin transfer torque has been predicted. Also such thermal spin transfer torque (TSTT), generated by a thermal gradient across the tunnel junction, should induce precessional magnetization dynamics in the nanostructure. The aim of this thesis is to evidence such TSTT induced precession by high frequency magneto transport measurements of the precessional dynamics.
