Gertrud Zwicknagl and her senior researcher S. Tornow are engaged in a long-term study of different aspects of complex quantum impurities in contact to a bosonic or fermionic environment. They have a complementary expertise of theoretical methods and background in the general physics of electron correlations and Kondo effect, the theory of electrons interacting with local lattice fluctuations as well as ab initio calculation of electronic properties,(G. Zwicknagl). There has been a scientific cooperation between G. Zwicknagl and S. Tornow on the Kondo effect in metals with correlated electrons. S. Tornow conducted model studies on the influence of electron correlations on the dynamics of charge transfer in molecules coupled to a vibrational environment using analytical methods as well as the time-dependent Numerical Renormalization Group technique.
